"Shoot-out" Battle @ the Border
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers, referees, scorekeepers, gym managers who generously gave up their weekend to make our annual Battle at the Border Basketball Tournament a success. In all, over 100 people worked tirelessly on registration, brackets, refereeing, cleaning-up facilities, and hospitality services. Over 8,000 young people, parents, grandparents and community members came through the tournament doors, to show their support of this very elite event.
The referees worked very hard throughout the weekend and moved the games along smoothly. Hundreds of games were supervised by some very talented young men and women. Special thanks go to: Mr. Enriquez, our referee coordinator.
A special thanks to Joe Hernandez, Scorekeeping coordinator, for his excellent scorekeeping crew. Their professionalism and organization was a huge contribution to the success of this tournament.
Telemundo was a huge contribution in helping us reach teams throughout Mexico. The support and publicity provided to the tournament by Telemundo, brought great recognition to this major tournament.
Mr. Miguel Luna, of Sun City Magazine, thank you for the hours of publicity you donated to the Battle at the Border Tournament. Your work was a huge contribution to a successful tournament.
A special thank you also goes out to the Ysleta School District, EL Paso School District, Socorro School District and the Dream Arena for the use of their facilities, to include the many custodians and security officers on hand. Their services were invaluable in ensuring that every player and spectator was provided a safe and comfortable environment.
We would like to also thank the various hotels around the area city of El Paso, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites, Town Place Suites and Hampton Inn. Their impeccable professionalism, rooms and services provided our visiting teams a pleasurable stay in the city of El Paso.
With the annual growth of this elite tournament, it is inevitable that we will require financial support. With this being said, we would like to thank Ricky Daniels of Cutting Masters College, and the El Paso Sports Commission for their financial support of this tournament. Your generosity has enabled hundreds of athletes to participate in a weekend of outstanding basketball.
Finally, we would like to extend our appreciation to the over 180 teams that participated in this year’s Battle at the Border. This event was an outstanding showcase of the talented youth we have in this region. Each hosting gymnasium was a venue of exciting games. We had thousands of spectators who came out to support their teams with a showmanship of sportsmanship. To those coaches and teams who came from out of the city and state, we send our gratitude to your efforts in coming to our tournament. We look forward to seeing you return next year.
Our sincerest gratitude,
Battle at the Border Board of Directors
